Abstract

India has installed 11.3 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, according to Mercom India Research.

In its latest solar market report, Mercom said last quarter’s additions jumped from 4.6 GW in the same period in 2024.

Solar power accounted for 64% of the total new capacity added in Q2.

There were 18 GW of solar projects installed in the first half (H1) of the year, up 31% from the same period last year. Large-scale solar additions also increased 20% in H1, led by Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.

India’s cumulative installed solar capacity reached 116.4 GW as of June 2025, with large-scale projects accounting for nearly 86% of the total. Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Karnataka were the top states for cumulative large-scale installations.
